Rich Leimsider, Entrepreneur-In-Residence at the Fund for the City of New York
Rich is the Entrepreneur-In-Residence at the Fund for the City of New York where he focuses on bringing safe, cheap, and helpful AI to everyday nonprofit workers. His latest article on nonprofits and AI was published with NYN Media, and he has hosted both in-person and virtual AI events for 600+ participants.
As an advocate for ethical, equitable and incremental uses of AI in the social sector, Rich has spent more than 200+ hours using modern AI tools, been certified by Vanderbilt University after taking a 30 hour course on Prompt Engineering and completed Vilas Dhar’s class on Ethics in the Age of Generative AI. He has also counseled a diverse set of nonprofit leaders on AI in the context of a unique nonprofit AI baseline survey.
In 2022 Rich founded and ran the PSLF.nyc Campaign - helping 70,000 New Yorkers access $4.6 billion in federal student debt relief. Earlier, he was Executive Director of Safe Passage Project, a nonprofit organization that provides free lawyers to child refugees. During his tenure, Safe Passage quadrupled in size to serve 1,500 children with 40 staff, 400+ pro bono attorneys, and a $5 million budget. Rich also grew programs at Echoing Green and the Aspen Institute. His path was shaped as a social worker in Texas and as a New York City Urban Fellow at the Department of Homeless Services. He is a graduate of NYC public schools, Williams College, Harvard Business School, and has most of an MSW from the University of Texas.
