Senate rules may limit the big beautiful bill
The Senate Parliamentarian, who is tasked with keeping Senate proceedings in line with the rules, ruled that several pieces of the budget reconciliation proposal on the table violate the Byrd Rule, meaning they are not directly related to the federal budget. The ruling could lead to these provisions being removed before the bill is voted on, or it could lead to an override of the rule by Senate leadership in order to keep everything in. Majority Leader Thune has expressed hesitancy to do that, but these days, you really never know.
